Many thanks to Kathy for this wonderful social software course.  The first week was the most challenging but I have learned to trust the process and I gave everything a try.  I enjoyed creating a blog…even finding out what one actually was.  I also liked the simplicity and usefulness of a wiki.  I got to know Flickr and YouTube, and now use an RSS feed from Library Journal for my book ordering.  I will probably visit Facebook a few more times but the tools I’ll most likely use will be the ones that I can apply to my job now.  The Children’s Libarian and I were discussing a possilbe podcast today but at this point it comes down to not enough staff time and money.  Delicious gave me a hard time installing so Delicious and Technorati are probably the applications I have no plans to use at this time.

P.S. I like tag clouds

Yesterday, we celebrated my daughter’s 20th birthday at a local restaurant.  After dinner, the wait staff brought out the cake and sang a snappy Italian birthday tune.  We all had a piece and happily brought the rest of the cake home.  Later, when I successfully added 10 feeds to my reader and felt pretty techno savvy, I decided to reward myself with another piece of cake.  Carefully cutting away a smidge of reward, I looked down at the cake and stared wide-eyed at the big ‘20′ still on the top of the cake.  I thought, “Wow, its a sign!”

My friend, Rick, and I saw an Aurora while walking on Scusset Beach one late summer evening. It was so amazing and such a rare sight around here. I have become fascinated with the whole phenomenon.

Hello Everyone,

I am a little behind schedule in setting up my blog so I had a chance to visit your completed sites.  They look great and I am inspired.

I am the Public Services Librarian for the Plymouth Public Library which is our title for the Circulation Supervisor.  I was the Manomet Branch Librarian for 24 years before taking this position at the main library last year.  It is a very busy job in a very busy library.

I was in a meeting recently when our Director and a younger librarian began discussing Facebook, Avatars, and Second Life.  For me it might as well have been in another language.  I spent the Christmas holiday interviewing my nieces and nephews about that ‘otherworld’ and realized I had to join the 21st century.  I hope to be a new woman in 6 weeks.
